Main Street Softworks: The Silver Bullet for Modern Retail Payments

The rise of inventive payment methods and new compliance mandates are keeping merchants on their toes. Merchants are looking for a single, comprehensive solution that can save them from costly investment in overhauling their payments infrastructure to align with the developments in the payments industry. The need of the hour is to have an integrated payment system that can handle multiple payment types for diverse business platforms while meeting the necessary compliance mandates. “We provide a simple solution to the merchants’ complex payment related problems,” says Steve Cook, VP of Sales, Main Street Softworks. Their inventive payment engine, Monetra, excels as a Swiss army knife, helping merchants to support a wide array of transaction types for different industries, with ease.

Main Street has a secure Application Programming Interface (API) available in both on-premise and in hosted environments, through which clients can implement Monetra for payment management. With this API, Monetra supports burgeoning payment types in various environments, including mobile and eCommerce, with little to no code change of their existing payment software. “Our clients continue to use our API while reaping the benefits of the latest payment technologies,” says Cook. Main Street’s API supports all major programming languages to build the integration in the environment of choice.

Monetra can be deployed on-premise, in a corporate location, at the gateway operator (where it caters to thousands of merchants across multiple locations), or it can be accessed as Main Street's TranSafe hosted gateway service, which is based on a geographically redundant data center infrastructure. Monetra supports end-to-end encryption, tokenization, EMV, mobile payments as well as in-app payments such as Apple and Google Pay. Besides, it also supports B2B transactions by supporting level 3 data that saves cost by lowering the interchange rates.

It also supports store and forward, EMV Quick Chip, and Main Street's proprietary ChipTab payment functionality.

Additionally, the company has developed UniTerm, a terminal integration module, to facilitate EMV deployment. UniTerm provides connectivity between Monetra and terminal devices. Using UniTerm, Main Street isolates POS from the EMV transaction process. By doing so, they remove the need for the POS to be EMV certified.

“With a proactive approach for payment security, Main Street has built their technology infrastructure which is inherently PCI compliant—which means; data is encrypted while in transit and also when at rest,” says Cook. The company has also been the proponent of end-to-end encryption of card data through their offering, CardShield, for many years.

Main Street’s game-changing technology is being used by some of the top payment processors and companies in the U.S. In an instance, one of their clients, a restaurant chain, paired with own eCommerce website to place orders. This business strategy over time became cumbersome and challenging to perform transactions using different merchant credentials and Terminal IDs in various branches and franchise and to deliver greater customer experience. Taking Main Street Softworks on board, they utilized the scalability features of Monetra to tackle the challenge. Leveraging Monetra, they migrated their eCommerce transaction data to stores and handled those transactions as an in-store purchase, while maintaining PCI compliance. They were also able to adjust orders through their in-store system.

As tablets and mobile devices dominate the payments market with contactless payments, merchants are finding it difficult to synchronizing their POS systems and securing eCommerce transactions. Main Street Softworks continues to deliver high performance and reliable product, supporting latest technology and isolating POS apps from the changes occurring on the payment side.
